Volunteers Requested for TRS Nursery School Charity Event

October 26th, 2011 · No Comments

Volunteers needed for babysitting!  There will be a charity dinner and auction on Saturday November 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm in the lobby of Temple Rodef Shalom Nursery School.   The event is being held in memory of a four-year-old temple member, Alexis Agin, who passed away in January, and all of the proceeds will benefit  The Cure Starts Now, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric brain cancer.  During the event, there will be a parallel kids event for children of attendees.  The organizers of the event, Alexis’ parents, are desperately in need of several more volunteers to babysit at the kids’ event.  Volunteers would need to arrive by 6:15 pm, and would be responsible for watching 25 children, ranging in ages from 3 to 7, while the children do art projects, play with quiet games and puzzles, and watch some of Alexis’ favorite DVDs.  Pizza and other snacks will be served.  If you are looking for some community service hours, this is a fun and meaningful way to help out.  If interested, please email Neely Agin at  Thanks!

Yom Kippur Dvar Torah
Jonah Adams, GMU Hillel Religious Chair

Isn’t it fitting that on Yom Kippur, the Dvar Torah be given by a Jonah. I was named Jonah because my grandfather reads the Torah portion of Jonah every year among other reasons, and I am even wearing the tallit he gave me, which is covered in doves. For if you didn’t know, Yonah, the original Hebrew form of Jonah, means dove, referring to the one sent by Noah to search for land which returned with an olive branch. (more…)
