George Mason Hillel

Shalom Torah Fund

ShalomFund (1)

We have exciting news to share with you! Mason Hillel has been blessed with receiving a Sefer Torah scroll from Congregation Yad Shalom of Centreville, VA. This is the Mason Hillel community’s very first Torah, and a tremendous gift. However, we need your help to repair the Torah for use during the High Holidays and throughout the year.

Just as buildings need repairs, a Torah needs to be maintained due to dirt, wear, and aging. We have developed the Shalom Fund to support Torah repairs and to ensure that our Torah is used for Jewish learning on campus for today and many tomorrows.  Receiving a Torah is a watershed moment for Mason Hillel.

In Pirkei Avos, the ethics of our fathers, it is said that the world stands on three things, the Torah, Worship, and deeds of loving kindness.  With our new Mason Hillel Torah, we have a symbolic blueprint to continue creating, expanding, and perfecting Jewish life for the 1200 Jewish students on campus. Your help is needed to make this a reality.

We have asked each Hillel student to give $18 to purchase a letter in the scroll.  Please join our students and make a donation to restore our Torah.  Everyone who supports the Shalom Fund will be permanently recognized on our website. Donors supporting $500 and above will be recognized permanently on a plaque bound to the Etz Chayim, the rollers of our scroll.  Help support the Shalom Fund to ensure that Jewish learning lives on and as a symbol of the enduring continuity of our people.  Together, we will continue to build a thriving Jewish community at Mason Hillel.

Enjoy the summer and thank you for your generosity.

Sincerely,

This past month we received an out pour of support to restore our Torah. Today the sofer (scribe) is able to complete his work repairing  the Torah. Celebrating our new Torah with our students and community members will be my personal highlight for the Jewish new year.

I would like to express a tremendous תּוֹדָה רַבָּה (toda rabah/thank you) to all of the individuals and families who gave generously to the Shalom Fund to restore our Torah.  Please see below the people who have helped us realize our dream. We could not have achieved this great accomplishment without you.

If you haven’t contributed yet there is still time to  help! Your support will ensure we have adequate funds to maintain the Torah and bring Jewish learning opportunities to campus  year to year.  Please consider making a contribution today.

I look forward to sharing with you stories from the first weeks of school and the High Holy Days.

Shana Tova,

Ross Diamond
